Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that it's a separate island somewhere to the west of Montreal However, in reality it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently referred to as her birthplace. However, she only was there for a brief duration. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer but due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 foot 1 inches tall. Once I surpassed my male counterparts, I stopped. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned into acting. Her high school teacher school was what pushed her to take the next step. Teacher who recommended she try getting a part in the the school's annual show. It was her choice to take on the principal part for Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on both small and large screens, attracting the greatest media attention after she was offered the part of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
